Bethel Caring Academy is a unique school located in Mombasa, Kenya, educating pre-school and nursery age children. £10,000 per year is needed to maintain the school, provide food for the children, cover teachers’s pay, medical support and purchase learning material.
The school is a beacon of hope within one of the poorest and most deprived areas of Mombasa. You can make the difference: take on the challenge with us and play your part in supporting Bethel Caring Academy.
There is no state funding available and each child needs a sponsor. Make a regular donation to support the school and to ensure a safe and sustainable learning environment.
How it started
Bethel Caring Academy began in 2020 providing a weekly feeding programme for the children in the area as many parents had lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, and were unable to feed their families. There is no state support in Kenya. A man, Pastor Dennis from the local Bethel Baptist Church, gathered community children together each Saturday to feed them and provide a bag of maize flour to take home.
This then extended to the opening of a school on 19 November 2020, initially with 25 children, that was funded by the Church until it became obvious that further funds were needed. The school enabled parents to seek employment while their children are cared for during the week therefore reducing poverty and filling educational needs.
Status
In August 2023 the school reached 75 children in its care and continued to provide education in accordance with the Kenyan school curriculum. Unfortunately the school has limited resources, poor sanitation, no running water and no mains electricity.
